Visa, Mastercard, American Express and other credit cards all have an application that must be filled out in order to be approved for these cards.

The questions that will be asked are the applicants full name, age, address, how many years they have lived at that address, and if they rent or own the property. This questioner will ask if it is an apartment or a house and a telephone number will be requested. There will be employment questions, including yearly gross pay, the employer’s name, how long the applicant has worked for the employer. If it is a job the person has worked at for six months or under the former employer will be asked about in these application questions.

The person filling out the credit card application that is a risk, because of their credit history might need to provide further information.

There will also be information included in the credit card application about the rate of interest that will be attached to the card, when the payments are due and the penalties if the payment is paid late. This is something a person filling out the papers to obtain a card should read carefully, because it will describe the terms.

When a person is issued an instant credit card, they usually have a favorable credit history. When the application is filled out over the Internet they will immediately be given their credit card number, the expiration date and a three-digit code. This can be used over the Internet to make purchases until the approved applicant is sent their permanent credit card in the mail.

The person applying for a credit card on the Internet or elsewhere will be asked to show a valid identification card, such as a drivers license or a state I.D. card.  This proof of identification will be asked for prior to the company issuing the credit card.
